A marble laminate is a decorative high-pressure laminate (HPL), commonly called sunmica, printed with a realistic marble pattern and bonded under a hard wear layer. It delivers the veining, depth and shade of natural marble on a thin, durable sheet that is glued onto plywood or MDF for table tops, shutters, doors and wall panels.

For most Indian homes and offices, yes. Marble laminate costs a fraction of natural marble, weighs far less, needs no sealing or polishing, and resists the stains, water and acids that etch real stone. Genuine marble offers true depth and resale prestige, but laminate wins on price, maintenance, consistency and ease of installation.

In most Indian kitchens the countertop itself is stone — granite or quartz — and that is what we would point you to there. Where a marble laminate is used it is a genuine HPL that resists heat, moisture, scratches and stains, with both thicknesses meeting the same IS:2046 Type S standard. It does its best work on the kitchen's backsplashes and cabinet shutters, and on table tops, where the 1mm Artis texture shows; seal cut edges well and avoid placing very hot vessels directly on any laminate for the longest life.

Thickness drives feel and price, not durability — both are HPL to the same IS:2046 Type S standard. The 1mm Artis line carries texture more deeply and is printed on imported papers — the showpiece pick for table tops and statement surfaces. The 0.8mm Woodrica and Artvio lines are the same durable sheet, lighter and easier to handle — ideal for wardrobe shutters, wall panels and cabinet fronts. The same marble and stone designs run across both thicknesses.

High gloss (HG) gives marble a polished, mirror-like sheen that mimics fresh stone polish and brightens a room — great for feature walls and reception areas. Suede or matt (SF/MT) gives a soft, fingerprint-friendly, contemporary look that suits kitchens and wardrobes. The right pick depends on lighting, upkeep and the mood you want.
